RESEARCH OBJECTIVE

My research goal is to incorporate crop modeling and remote sensing efforts into food security and agricultural decision support. My approach would be interdisciplinary, but my focus would be on delivering crop modeling and remote sensing for developing resilient crop production technologies and improving risk management of crops under stress.

EDUCATION

Ph. D. (2004) in Agronomy, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas, USA. Advisor: Dr. Stephan J. Maas. Dissertation:Development of a cotton crop model that uses remote sensing data.

M. Agriculture (1998) in Agronomy, Kangwon National University, Chuncheon, Republic of Korea. Advisor: Dr. Yun Su Lee. Thesis: Bioassay and analysis of allelopathic substances in rice (Oryza sativa L.) husks.

Nov. 23, 2009 – Aug. 22, 2010, Research Scientist, Environ. Remote Sensing Lab., Kangwon Nat’l Univ., Chuncheon, Kangwon, ROK. Advisor: Dr. Shinku Kang. Environmental ecosystems monitoring: 1) development of a regional and global crop monitoring system and 2) simulation of small to medium watersheds using RHESSys.

Aug. 31, 2008 Nov. 18, 2009 , Research Agronomist, USDA-ARS Ag. Sys. Res. Unit, Ft. Collins, Colorado, USA. Advisor: Dr. Lajpat R. Ahuja. Regional water assessments under climate change scenarios: simulation study on the effects of past climate and projected change on water availability, water demand of crops, and grain-crop production in the Great Plains; down-scaling of regional climate change variables in space and time for use in a cropping system model.

Crop modeling: developing decision support systems for irrigation management of crops. Developing irrigation management tools: determination of crop coefficients to estimate crop water requirements and improve irrigation efficiency of crops. Crop stress physiology: evaluate plant response to limited irrigation regimes and agronomic practices leading to water conservation.
